I personally don't mind, but why? I believe it would draw more people if the chessclub wasn't on friday. After all, people have better things to do with the best day of the week. Why was it moved off of thursdays in the first place?

The chess club meetings were moved to Fridays for at least 2 reasons. First, last year other clubs met on Thursdays and created a conflict for some of our members, including you. Second, I have graduate classes that meet on Thursdays. I think if we want a better turn out, we need to be more organized, have a tournament that we are working towards, send weekly emails, get our members involved in fundraising, and have weekly incentive prizes for various accomplishments. Why do people want to come to a club that is so inconsistant and lacking direction? Even the current members who come, and we have quite a few regulars, only three of us belong to the USCF. Why would anyone want to sign up if we are not participating in tournaments? When we as officers take chess play as serious and not an inconvenience to our Fridays, or only as an opportunity to make ourselves look good, or only as a means to socialize, then perhaps the clubs membership will follow suit. If it is a goal to have more attendance, why was that not discussed at the officers meeting? Eddie it feels as though you have not learned. As president you motivate and facilitate the involvement of the chess club officers and members. You should not "do it all" yourself. The club is not your club. It is the members club. The president should see himself as an unimportant part of the process not the most important player. It is this attitude that embraces humility. Members should not have to check the website or the forum, nor should they be instructed to do so, they should reinforced to want to by choice and not out of an obligation to make someone feel good.
